The Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves. If George Washington were alive today he would not recognize the country he founded. If Patrick Henry were here he would repeat the famous line “Give me Liberty or give me death,” and start another Revolution. Paul Revere would again ride through Boston and shout “The communists are coming, the communists are coming.” Well, the Communists are already here. Thomas Jefferson would be surprised to learn prayer and the Bible have been removed from our public schools government indoctrination centers.
A Brief History Lesson
The Mayflower Compact
Let’s start with the Pilgrims. Why did they come to America? They came here to escape religious persecution and spread the Gospel.
When they arrived at Plymouth the stayed on the ship without disembarking for two weeks. They drew up a document called “The Mayflower Compact.”
Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a Voyage to plant the first Colony…
There’s no doubt why they came here.
But that’s not the end of their story. There were twenty women on the Mayflower. Fifteen perished that first winter because they gave up their own food to feed their children. The daily allotment per person was five kernels of corn.
William Bradford was the Pilgrim’s governor. The first year, they worked a socialist system where everybody worked “for the common good.” There was no incentive to succeed. The second year Governor Bradford gave each family a plot of land. The would succeed or fail on their own. This was the start of the free enterprise system in America.
Declaration of Independence
Moving forward to 1776 the Founding Fathers shook off the chains of tyranny from Great Britain by divine call. Citing 27 biblical violations they wrote the Declaration of Independence. One of the most often quoted lines from the Declaration says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
They ended the Declaration by “appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions. … And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
They cited the Judeo-Christian God at least three times, referring to him as “Creator,” “divine Providence,” and “Supreme Judge.”
The Constitution
Libertarians are strict constructionists. We believe the authors meant exactly what they said in the Constitution.
Biblical Principles
During the Constitutional Convention, the participants were continually arguing with one another. Until Benjamin Franklin stood up and said:
“I therefore beg leave to move — that henceforth prayers, imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business; and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.”
From then on, they prayed every day before starting business and were able to agree on what our Constitution should say.
Research into the quotes of the Founding Fathers isolated 3,154 direct quotes. The Bible was quoted four times more than anything else. They respected John Locke, Montesquieu and Sir William Blackstone — all great philosophers of their day, but they respected the Bible even more. Thirty-four percent of the quotes came directly from the Bible.
These quotes included
Godliness makes a nation great,
but sin is a disgrace to any people ~ Proverbs 14:34But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten. ~ Exodus 18:21
This is where we get our idea of a representative democracy. But the men describe in that Bible verse are not like the men in our Congress today.
For the LORD is our judge,
the LORD is our lawgiver,
the LORD is our king;
it is he who will save us. ~Isaiah 33:22
Sound familiar? This is where we get the idea for three branches of government
You are also to know that you have no authority to impose taxes, tribute or duty on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants or other workers at this house of God. ~Ezra 7:24
This is why churches and other charities are exempt from paying taxes. Clergy fill out a slightly different form for the IRS every year.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ~ 2 Corinthians 3:17
We have no freedom apart from the Lord.
Limited Powers
The Constitution spells out exactly what the Federal government was allowed to do. It also limited the powers of that government and limited the powers of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. They put in place a system of “checks and balances.”
The right to appoint judges is reserved for the President. The Senate does not have the right to forever block any President’s appointments to any court. Republican and Democratic Senators are both guilty of this sin.
The job of the Courts is to _interpret_ the law, not make new law. Dred Scott v. Sanford, Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade were all terrible court decisions. They all created new law and usurped the will of the people.
Today, the Courts have trampled all over the will of the people in Moore v. ACLU et. al., and NAALCP et. al. v. Shelley. These cases are the “Alabama Ten Commandments” case and the “California Recall Election” case respectively.
The Bill of Rights
1st Amendment
The phrase “separation of church and state” is found nowhere in the Bill Of Rights. Thomas Jefferson penned those words in a letter to the Danbury Baptists. Jefferson was not even in the country when the 1st Amendment was being debated, he was our Ambassador to France at the time.
The “wall of separation” doctrine was created within the last fifty years. Justice Hugo Black said, “The First Amendment has erected a wall between church and state. That wall must be kept high and impregnable.” (Everson v. Board of Education, 1947)
The Founding Fathers never intended to create such a wall.
The separation of church and state is found in one historical document — the Constitution of the former Soviet Union. “The church in the USSR is separated from the state and the school from the church.” Liberals who don’t want the church to have any influence in the public square are actually espousing a Communist philosophy.
James Madison in 1815 said, “Before any man can be considered a member of civil society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governor of the Universe.” Benjamin Rush, who signed the Declaration of Independence said, “Let the children… be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion.”
So when we remove prayer and the Ten Commandments from government indoctrination centers, we abandon the principles set forth by the Founders. Liberals say children must be protected from the Ten Commandments, but your friendly guidance counselor can pass out condoms as if they were candy.
2nd Amendment
Gives is a right to keep and bear arms.
Liberals want to take away our ability to protect ourselves. The police can’t protect us all the time. Cities with the strictest gun control laws are also the leaders in violent crime. Washington, DC — our Nations Capitol — has the strictest gun control laws. It’s also the “Murder Capitol.”
10th Amendment
Liberals make a big deal out of the 1st Amendment, but they don’t want to talk about he 10th Amendment. “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.” Liberals want to control every economic aspect of our lives. Social security, Medicare/Medicade, the Federal Department of Education — all these things violate this amendment.
Liberalism is destroying our Country

Progressivism breaks down society. Todays liberals are more properly called Socialists or Communists.
Nikita Khrushchev once said, “We must abolish the cult of the individual decisively, once and for all.” Those sentiments were echoed by a prominent American politician who said, “We must stop thinking of the individual and start thinking about what is best for society.” Any guesses who said that? The person who uttered those words is none other than the Democratic Party candidate for president in the year 2008. Our very own champion of socialized medicine, Hillary Clinton.
One more quote. A quickie from Ayn Rand: “The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities.” (Source: Neal Boortz writing for WorldNetDaily)
What can you do?
- Educate yourself about history.
- Read Freedom Tide. Chad’s book is an easy read since he’s a Clemson grad and uses simple words.
- Get yourself a copy of the Constitution and carry it with you wherever you go.
- Keep up with current events.
- Write to your Congressman and Senators. Most have web sites where you can submit a letter to them. I always get letters back from Congressman Trey Gowdy, Senator DeMint and Senator Graham.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin once said, “I seek to encourage those Americans similarly inclined to help return America to its founding moral imperative. This is neither a cry for religious revolution nor a crusade; it is something else entirely. It is a reminder that we have lost our way. It is a suggestion that we return home again.”
