At the health care summit, President Obama famously said to John McCain, “”we’re not campaigning anymore. The election’s over.” Yes Barack, we know you won. We know you don’t care that the majority of the American people don’t want this health care bill.

So, if the election is really over, then why is Obama in perpetual campaign mode? Why is he going to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to give a stump speech on Monday morning? I think it’s because he doesn’t know how to govern, so he just goes out there and gives another speech. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Barack Hussein Obama will be a bigger failure than Jimmy Carter.

The discussion shouldn’t be about parties, it should be about what’s right for the American people.  I don’t care who puts forward the ideas, as long as they actually do some good and don’t saddle my children with a load of debt they won’t be able to bear.

A marxist friend of mine thinks that private insurance companies are evil because they try to make money. I guess if you’re a marxist, anyone who makes money and won’t share it is evil. She thinks that it would be better to put our health care decisions into the hands of the government.

I couldn’t disagree more! I have respect for a corporate CEO who admits that company profits and the bottom line matter to him. I think it’s OK to make a buck selling insurance. I wouldn’t be working at an insurance company if they weren’t making a profit selling insurance and annuities.

I have no respect for a politician who pretends to have altruistic motives, but is only worried about getting re-elected. I think most politicians are pathetic. For example, look at Al Gore. After he lost the election to George W. Bush he admitted his life had no meaning anymore.

If you think Barack Obama has your best interests in mind when he calls for nationalizing healthcare, think again. All he cares about is lining the coffers of union bosses like the SEIU and the teachers’ unions. They are the ones who got him elected, he thinks they’ll get him re-elected. That is Barack’s only motive.

My friend must have a horrible doctor, because her description of doctors isn’t very nice.

Your health is not the main mission of your doctor. His main mission is to remain in the black, to reduce cost (cheap IT), and to do lots of procedures (money money money!!) and to see as many patients as possible (money money money).

I know my doctor cares about my health. He stays in the black by keeping his costs low and providing excellent care to his patients. K&K have a very small staff, no fancy machines, and they don’t deal with insurance companies.

If you’re in favor of socialized medicine, don’t hold the VA hospitals up as a shining light. They are failing our warriors every day. If the VA is your example of government efficiency, then you have a very distorted view of reality.

There is limited competition between private insurers now because the government won’t allow them to compete. If you live in New Jersey (where an individual insurance policy costs more money than most people can afford) you can’t buy a policy from Indiana (where an individual policy is affordable.) Giving us the right to buy insurance policies across state lines should be the number one health insurance reform priority, but it’s not in the Democrats bill because they only want one thing — a single payer system.

Creating more government insurance programs or “cooperatives” won’t create more competition. Letting the government run an insurance company to compete with private insurers would be like letting the Cowboys coaches be the referees in a game between Dallas and the Philadelphia Eagles.

I have a healthy respect for private corporations, because I know what their motives are. I have a healthy distrust of politicians and government, because most of the time they’re just worrying about the next election.

The recent healthcare summit left me unhappy with both the Republicans and the Democrats.

First, how can the President reform health insurance when he doesn’t even know what health insurance is?

He claimed that high-deductible plans aren’t real insurance. This is like claiming that I don’t have real car insurance if my policy doesn’t cover oil changes. (I remember a time when all you needed was “major medical” insurance. This was before HMO’s, PPO’s and the rest of the so-called health maintenance plans.)

With this one comment the President completely disqualified himself from having any further involvement in our healthcare.

Are my other elected representatives any better informed? Please be clear about this…

• Insurance is supposed to cover major events that people can’t afford to pay out of normal income and savings
• This means that real health insurance is of the high deductible, major medical variety
• The plans the President mistakenly thinks of as health insurance are really expensive pre-payment schemes

These pre-payment schemes aren’t real health insurance. They only exist because of stupid federal tax policies, and corporate welfare regulations at the state level.

What our President, and many in Congress, mistakenly call real health insurance is actually the very root of the problem. As Cato scholar Alan Reynolds points out…

• A study by Amy Finklestein of MIT suggests that expanded health insurance coverage is responsible for nearly half of the increase in per capita healthcare spending.
• Which suggests that the pre-payment schemes the President mistakes for health insurance have driven up healthcare costs, while the high-deductible plans the President rejects would actually reduce costs

In fact, when it comes to scholarly studies, I would strongly urge you guys to pay more attention to some of the studies my taxes have funded. For instance…

A 2008 study for the Department of Health and Human Services shows that allowing consumers to bypass state-imposed corporate welfare mandates would make real health insurance affordable for more than 11 million Americans, without raising my taxes or increasing the national debt!

And the RAND Health Insurance Experiment showed that consumers with the kind of pre-payment plans President Obama prefers used substantially more healthcare than those who had the kind of high-deductible plans the President dislikes — with little difference in healthcare outcomes between the two groups!

In other words, the President’s approach wastes resources and drives up costs — they very opposite of what he claims to want!

The evidence is clear…

• You can insure more people at less cost,
• While also maintaining the quality of care,
• But you can only do these things by reducing government involvement, not increasing it.

Instead of taking this approach, what we heard from the Democrats was a desire for government price controls. Sadly, the Republicans want to do similar things, like forbidding insurance companies from imposing caps on total payouts.

If the Republicans really believe in the free market, like they claim, they would be working to allow companies to offer a range of policies at a variety of prices, not dictating what companies can and cannot offer to consumers.

Both parties act as if they believe the political process is capable of setting prices and allocating resources better than the free market. My response to this is !@#$%!

Look, it’s really hard to write respectful messages to you people when you keep providing new evidence that you are ignorant of how the world works and unwilling to consider evidence contrary to your preconceived political talking points. Frankly, I think the respect needs to run the other way. You guys are the ones threatening to use government force to dictate the terms of my existence. I cannot express how angry this makes me.

Please respect my right to control my own healthcare. Do two things, immediately…

• Allow consumers and employers to buy health insurance across state lines
• Expand Health Savings Accounts, so that individuals can buy coverage with the same tax advantages as employer-provided insurance

Do these things now. Do not wait. Do not hesitate. And above all, abandon your own coercive schemes to re-engineer my life.
