<p>In a <a href="http://www.townhall.com/columnists/maggiegallagher/printmg20010606.shtml">new commentary</a>, columnist <a class="zem_slink" title="Maggie Gallagher" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggie_Gallagher">Maggie Gallagher</a> makes her case for finding another way. <a class="zem_slink" title="Embryonic stem cell" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embryonic_stem_cell">Embryonic stem cells</a> are not the most effective for research or potential cures. <a class="zem_slink" title="Biotechnology" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biotechnology">Bio-technology</a> firms supported by <a class="zem_slink" title="Venture capital" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venture_capital">venture capitalists</a> are using <a class="zem_slink" title="Stem cell" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stem_cell">stem cells</a>. Privately funded research is always better than government funded research, they&#8217;re actually motivated to make a profit. Thirteen of 15 firms work with adult stem cells, which are &#8220;better behaved,&#8221; and therefore better suited for research than embryonic stem cells.</p>
<p>There is no need to kill babies to cure diseases like <a class="zem_slink" title="Parkinson's disease" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson%27s_disease">Parkinson&#8217;s</a>, <a class="zem_slink" title="Diabetes mellitus" rel="wikipedia" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabetes_mellitus">diabetes</a> or paralysis.</p>
