Mall Via Telephone From St. Louis, Missouri
Well, thank you, Nellie. I want to thank you very much for including me
in the celebration of life. I want to thank the good folks there on the Mall
today. I’m calling you from St. Louis, Missouri. I know there are some from
Missouri there and, like many others, you’ve made great sacrifices to come
to Washington today. A lot of you have ridden buses all night long and I
know you’re braving the cold. And I admire your perseverance and I admire
your devotion to the cause of life.
Sensible Forest Management
Finally, a president who understands sensible forest management. Instead of Kow-towing to the environmental whackos, President Bush promotes thinning forests to reduce the risk of wildfires.
“The forest policy of our government is misguided policy. It doesn’t work,” Bush told Oregon residents who live near a wildfire blaze that is Oregon’s largest on record. “We need to thin. We need to make our forest healthy by using some common sense.”
After the Clinton-Gore years of mis-management, we’re seeing more dangerous forest fires. By the time Bush leaves office, we should be seeing fewer forest fires.
Environmental Whackos, Again
First it was the suckerfish and Coho Salmon, now it’s the bald eagles. I think these environmentalists just want to screw the Klamath Basin farmers. Things aren’t quite as bad for those little fish as we thought they were, so we’ve got some extra water we can release. “That water can’t possible go to the farmers, there are other animals that need it first.” That’s what the environmental loonies are telling us. I’m getting very disgusted with these so-called “citizen activists.” The lawyers saw another opportunity to sue and get big bucks from the federal government. Of course they jumped right on it.
The WatchWater of Oregon folks told the Portland Oregonian, “We’re filing this lawsuit out of desperation.” No, they’re not, they’re filing this lawsuit out of greed.
The eagles aren’t there now, the farmers are. If there’s no water when the eagles get there, they’ll find someplace else to go. The Klamath Basin farmers don’t have anywhere else to go. It’s not a death sentence for the eagles. It could be a death sentence for all those family farms.
