After being criticized for her remarks, Bev back pedaled and said she was just joking.

I’ve heard the tape and it doesn’t sound like she’s joking. I’m an Advanced Toastmaster and I’ve given and evaluated dozens of speeches. One of the things you learn is that you have to pause slightly after the laugh lines to let the audience react. She did not pause, there was no audience reaction. It was not a joke.

Rush Limbaugh has speculated that her statement was a “trial balloon.” He thinks Democrats know they’re in trouble and really do want to cancel elections.

I’m not sure that’s what is really happening, but I wouldn’t put it past Obama and his cronies. I think they’ll manufacture some crisis, and “October surprise,” just before the 2012 elections. Their hope, Americans will say “We can’t change horses in midstream” because we’re in the middle of a crisis. Kinda like the American sheople did in 2004 when they re-elected Bush.

But I’ve got a message for Barack, you’re no George Bush. You’re certainly no Ronald Reagan. The only President you can be compared to is failed, one-term President Jimmy Carter.

Why is the media giving us wall-to-wall coverage of hurricane Irene? From the way they’re covering it, you would think it’s going to be another hurricane Katrina. The two situations are completely different. There’s no way Irene can cause the same kind of devastation that Katrina did. Let me explain…

1. None of the cities in the potential path of hurricane Irene are built below sea level, like New Orleans. A storm surge along the Eastern coast cannot cause damage like it did in the Gulf.
2. The politicians (Governors and Mayors) in the potential danger zone are not incompetent idiots like Kathleen Blanco and Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin. ‘Nuff said.
3. The people who live along the East coast are a lot smarter than the idiots who refused to leave their houses and property in New Orleans. The strong people of North Carolina and Virginia are much more self-sufficient than the lazy asses who sat around waiting for government buses to pick them up during hurricane Katrina.

That’s why hurricane Irene in 2011 won’t be like hurricane Katrina in 2005. Oh, there’s one more thing I forgot … Bush isn’t President anymore. How could I forget that.

I can remember it clearly. I was working at Lowe’s headquarters building in North Wilkesboro, NC. They had a cafeteria in the building with TV‘s that were always tuned to a news channel. I went in to get breakfast and they were showing a building that was on fire. I thought nothing of it.

A little while later, I went back in to get a coffee refill and the news anchor was telling everybody how the first World Trade Center tower had collapsed. I watched in horror as the 2nd plane hit the other tower.

From that time on, I was riveted to the TV. I saw the 2nd tower collapse, then saw the footage from the Pentagon. There was talk of a 4th plane that crashed in Pennsylvania and a lot of speculation that plane was supposed to have been used as a bomb to destroy the Whitehouse.

I wasn’t born before Kennedy was shot. The WTC disaster is my generations equal. I’ll never forget. Where were you?

Remember way back in 2000 during the Presidential election campaign? They held a debate in Winston-Salem, NC at Wake Forest University. I was there protesting the exclusion of my candidate, The Libertarian Party‘s Harry Browne. I didn’t realize until today, that my first-hand account was published on the LPNC web site. (Look for my name about two-thirds of the way down the page.)

First thing, we had a great turnout for the protest in Winston-Salem! (Elizabeth, what was the final head count?) Libertarians from all over North Carolina came to Wake Forest to protest Harry Browne’s exclusion from the so-called Presidential Debates.  Some came from as far away as Asheboro and Raleigh-Durham.  There were even some students there from the University of North Carolina; a good thing since this shows we are getting our message out to younger voters.

I arrived at the “staging area” a little after 6:00 PM. Our organizers told us beforehand that no cameras, no drinks and only hand-held signs would be allowed at the protest site. At the staging area we were told that no cell phones or beepers would be allowed either. These restrictions worried some of us.

Shuttle buses were supposed to start running at 6:00 PM, but the drivers claimed they were not given instructions about where they were supposed to go until almost 7:00. We didn’t get rolling ’til 7:15. Before getting on the bus we were tagged and put through metal detectors. I only carried four things with me to the protest site–my car keys, my drivers license, a Harry Browne for President sign and a copy of the U.S. Constitution.

Once we got to the protest site, the drivers weren’t sure where they were supposed to drop off their passengers. When we finally got that straightened out we were led to a cattle chute which brought about a few moo’s from our crowd. At the end of the chute we were led into a fenced in protest area. This led a few in the crowd to chant “Let the penguins out of the pen.” Other chants that could be heard in our protest area included, “Fifty states want real debates!” “Harry, Harry, Harry…” “Can’t vote Green vote Browne!”

Several reporters ignored the ban on press in the protest area and came to interview and film some of us. I saw Mr. Howe speaking to several reporters about the campaign of Barbara Howe, Libertarian candidate for North Carolina Governor. Elizabeth spoke to several reporters to let them know why we were there and to talk about Libertarian principles.

I am very disappointed that the protesters without permits got more attention than the Libertarians who respected the private property rights of Wake Forest University and obtained a permit to protest on the WFU campus. Several news organizations did come to film and interview us, but I haven’t been able to find any specific mention of the protesters on the University Parkway side of the university.

Because the media started to move toward Wait Chapel at around 8:30 we decided to end our protest. Some people in our group walked down to the LJVM coliseum to go to “Rock the Vote.” The rest of us took shuttles back to the staging area. I was not able to go to “Rock the Vote” because I needed to get home to my wife and daughter.

One interesting side note, I noticed that the Million Misguided Mom representatives did not respect WFU property rights and refused to go into the protest area.
