Reverse DC Gun Ban

Congress Takes up Dispute Over DC Gun Ban

A Senate Republican is taking aim at the District of Columbia‘s ban on firearms. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) wants to let city residents carry guns for self-defense. Hatch’s bill, the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act, would undo a 1975 gun-control law that prohibits city residents from carrying firearms, even restricting the possession of a useable gun in their homes. The legislation comes at a time when the gun ban is under the scrutiny of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The National Rifle Association and the libertarian Cato Institute are backing separate lawsuits, filed earlier this year by residents who want to carry firearms. “The prohibition of firearms in the District of Columbia is as ineffective and deplorable as it is unconstitutional,” Hatch said in a statement. “It is high time we rectify this wrong.”

It’s about time! The people of DC and New York deserve the right to defend themselves. The police in both cities have shown they can’t protect people. DC has the highest murder rate in the country. Dallas, a place where you can carry a concealed weapon, has one of the lowest.

Heston Repeats Famous Line Final Time as NRA President

CNSNews.com: “Charlton Heston ended his term as president of the National Rifle Association Saturday the same way he began it, declaring his devotion to the Second Amendment and his love for the other freedoms he believes are protected by the right to keep and bear arms. “Our founders pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in the name of liberty,” he said in a pre-taped address to more than 4,000 NRA members gathered for the group’s 132nd annual meeting. “We pledge to preserve it.” NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre then presented Heston with a Winchester 1866 “cowboy rifle” in honor of his service. Heston raised the rifle above his head, then said – for the last time as NRA president – “From my cold, dead hands.” The audience gathered in the Orange County Convention Center rose to their feet in thunderous applause for Heston.
