After I heard the news about Bank of America issuing credit cards to illegal aliens, I sent them a strongly worded message. I finally got a reply today:

Please be advised that Bank of America created this pilot in Los Angeles to help current customers who have deposits with us, with little or no credit history, build a credit history. The program is consistent with our goal of helping our customers meet their financial needs.

We are careful to comply with U.S. laws and regulations, including the USA Patriot Act, and use the same criteria to extend credit across our entire customer base. We require all customers to provide us with two forms of identification, one of which must be an unexpired U.S. or foreign government-issued identification card. Our banking center associates then verify the identity of the customer.

Customers who sign up for this particular credit card program must also have an existing deposit account with us.

This program is being piloted in predominantly Hispanic communities in Southern California, and offers a secured credit card to existing Bank of America deposit account holders who have little or no credit history.

We apologize for any inconvenience or miscommunication you may have experienced in this matter. We value you as a customer and appreciate your business. If we may be of further assistance, please contact us again by e-mail. Thank you for choosing Bank of America.

I don’t think they’re complying with all U.S. laws.  When I opened my new account at Wachovia, they asked to see my driver’s license and Social Security card. I heard a story of a bank that wouldn’t open an account for a 14-year old girl, born in the United States, because she didn’t have a government issued picture ID. Seems they don’t have such “Higher Standards” after all. Guess that’s why their new slogan is “Bank of Opportunity.” Maybe that should be “Bank of Opportunity for illegal aliens.”

It would be ridiculous for Americans to go to a place like China and expect everyone there to speak English.

English Only at Philly Cheesesteak Joint

An English-only ordering policy has thrust one of Philadelphia‘s best-known cheesesteak joints into the national immigration debate.

Situated in a South Philadelphia immigrant neighborhood, Geno’s which together with its chief rival, Pat’s King of Steaks, forms the epicenter of an area described as “ground zero for cheesesteaks” has posted small signs telling customers, “This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING ‘SPEAK ENGLISH.’”

I’m with Joe Vento, speak English, please.

Why do we want to give them amnesty?

Have you see this quote from Augustin Cebada of the Brown Berets — a left-wing group supporting Amnesty for over 12 million illegal aliens?

“Go back to Boston! Go back to Plymouth Rock, Pilgrims! Get out! We are the future. You are old and tired. Go on. We have beaten you. Leave like beaten rats. You old white people. It is your duty to die… Through love of having children, we are going to take over.”

Is there somebody out there who will still tell me that all illegal immigrants need to be treated with compassion? A lot of them are criminals deserving no compassion at all. Next week, they’re planning to shut down 12 American cities by walking off the job.

Acknowledging the key role immigrants play in the Southern California economy, some local employers and their workers are preparing for work disruptions or shutdowns stemming from large immigrant rights actions Monday.

Some local employers say they will look the other way if their employees skip work to participate. Some restaurants, grocery stores, garment factories, farmers, meat-packers, gardeners and truckers say they plan to suspend some or all of their operations. That’s out of concern about not having enough workers, or for fear of a backlash.

So that’s how they’re going to repay the country that, so far, has been so good to them? Don’t they realize how many millions of dollars immigrants will lose because of their protests? What about the legal immigrants who don’t want to protest on Monday? A lot of them will lose wages because business owners will be shutting down.

If ICE wants to know where the illegal immigrants are, all they have to do is watch businesses suspected of employing illegals on Monday. Then on Tuesday, show up and arrest anybody who wasn’t there for work the day before.

Texas border standoff with Mexican military

Texas law enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents engaged in an armed standoff with Mexican military personnel and drug smugglers just inside the United States along the Rio Grande yesterday afternoon.

Maybe we’re at war with the wrong country? Seems like the Mexican military is more of a threat to the U.S. than the insurgents in Iraq. President Bush, it’s time to declare war on Mexico!
