Obama Takes Bible Verse Out of Context

Government Religion

In a speech at the National Day of Prayer Breakfast, Obama tried to justify a progressive tax by quoting from the Bible.

“To whom much is given, much shall be required.” ~Barack Obama

The closest actual Biblical quote I could find was in the book of Luke:

And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more. ~ Luke 12:47-49

In context, Jesus was talking about the responsibility of a slave to his master. In modern times this could be applied to an employer and employee relationship. I think it’s pretty clear that Jesus was not talking about taxes in this parable.

Then again, maybe Obama thinks government is supposed to be our master and we’re all slaves?

No matter what Obama’s speech writer was thinking, I still think that it’s not government’s role to force us to be charitable.

Live Tweeting the #SOTU

Government

Last night during the State of the Union address it may have looked like some Congressmen weren’t paying attention. That may not have been the case. Some were following along, reading the speech on their iPads and some were tweeting their reactions live as Obama gave the speech. These were some of my favorite Congressional tweets during the address:

A blueprint for an economy that’s “built to last,” Mr. President? The #MackPennyPlan saves $7.5 trillion over 10 yrs & balances the budget.

House Passes Bill to Extend Tax Cuts, Create Jobs

Government

The House just passed a bill to extend the payroll tax cut with one rider that directs the Obama administration to go forward on the Keystone XL pipeline. That in no way has anything to do with rolling back clean air standards. What it does is links a payroll tax cut to much-needed job creation. If the Senate and Obama won’t pass this bill, then they’re the ones who are increasing taxes on the middle class and standing in the way of job creation.

The Republicans Continue to Wage War Against Government Workers

Government

Most government workers have forgotten that their jobs exist to serve the people. We do not serve them. Government workers contribute nothing to the economy, they just suck money out of the economy. Government does not have any money of its own (unless the Federal government creates it out of thin air) it has to take money from the productive, private sector workers to pay government employees.

How to Catch Wild Pigs

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter.

The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked: “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke.
