I’ve told my son he will never get in trouble with me for standing up to a bully, even if he gets suspended for fighting back. Zero-tolerance policies are really zero-intelligence policies.

At a time when many states can barely afford to educate their own legal residents children, we can’t afford to be educating children who are here illegally. Liberals are always complainin­g we don’t spend enough on education in the Red States, so how about giving us a break. Don’t make us educate children who can’t speak English and don’t belong in our classrooms because they’re here illegally.

My son was recently diagnosed with an eye condition called convergence insufficiency. TJ’s eyes do not work well together for the length of time required for schoolwork. As he struggles to aim both eyes at the page, the print tends to move, blur or go double. It is not surprising that TJ sometimes struggles in class.

This is a condition that my wife and I had never heard of before. As far as I know, there are not too many optometrists who are qualified to diagnose it and most don’t even try. Just because a child’s eyes are 20/20 doesn’t mean they are working well together and able to focus correctly.

Unless the Lord Builds the School

AJ Whittenberg Elementary School of Engineering is giving people the opportunity to be a permanent part of their new campus. They are asking family, friends and businesses to buy a brick paver for their patio area as a lasting gift to the school. This is a benefit for the PTA.

I thought long and hard about what I wanted to put on our family’s brick. Here’s what I want our paver to say:
