Censorship

I’ve censored the following, in protest of a bill that gives any corporation and the US government the power to censor the internet — a bill that could pass this week.

The █████ █████████ █████████ ████ ██████ ████ the ████ ██████ ██████ Act ████ ████████. ████ the ████ █████ out of █████████, the █████ can ████ it at any ████. but, if we’re ████ to ████ it at ████ █████ it’ll ████████ █████ ███████. ████’s why we ████ ████ ████ ████ ████:  We ████ to ████ ████ ██████ ██████████ ████ the ████████ █████ be ████ if ████ ██████.

Standing up to the ACLU

Censorship

All I can say is “Good for them!” I hope more local governments stand up to the ACLU and say “We won’t allow you to censor us.”

ACLU request hasn’t a prayer, Raleigh panel says

City Council members refused Tuesday to strip Jesus, Buddha, Guru Nanak or any other religious figures from the prayers that open its meetings, bracing for a legal fight with the American Civil Liberties Union.

Good work up there in Raleigh. Keep it up, don’t let the ACLU intimidate you.

ACLU wants to limit free speech

Censorship

The hypocrital ACLU is at it again. They’ll stand up for free speech, as long as it’s speech they agree with. But if you want to say something they don’t agree with, they want the government to censor you.

ACLU endorses bill limiting pregnancy center rights

A new congressional effort to police advertising by crisis pregnancy centers is unnecessary, pro-life advocates said, and unconstitutional, free-speech defenders charged.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which has long promoted itself as the leading defender of freedom of speech and civil rights, is right in the middle of the controversy, promoting the new legislation to the surprise of some.

This is not suprising to us at all. The ACLU have a long history of being selective defending free speech, especially when it comes to pro-lifers. Besides, defending the first amendment is only third on the ACLU’s list of priorities, abortion is their number one priority.

Campaign Reform v. Free Speech

Michael Moore’s Legal Troubles

Michael Moore, the director of “Fahrenheit,” now finds
himself in a legal tangle. And while Moore’s enemies might cheer at his
troubles, they should know that they, too, could get snared in the same
trap some day.

I hate Michael Moore, so my first reaction to this news is “It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.”

But as a Libertarian and free speech advocate, I see this as very
dangerous. “If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we
despise, we don’t believe in it at all.”–Noam Chomsky

Pastors and Free Speech

Censorship

The Houses of Worship Free
Speech Restoration Act
(HR 235 ) introduced by Congressman Walter Jones
(R-NC) is quietly gaining steam. HR 235 would restore freedom of
political speech to churches which was stripped from them by Lyndon
Baynes Johnson while he was in the Senate in the 1950′s. Until then a
pastor could get behind a pulpit and say exactly what he thought of a
politician who was a drunk and a womanizer — that is precisely why
Lyndon Johnson wanted them shut up. There is now movement to add the
language of HR 235 to one of the 13 annual appropriations bills that
keep the government running. (This is the same procedure Johnson used
to silence preachers.)

Support your pastor. Tell your Congressmen to restore free speech rights for houses of worship.
