Sheep and Wolves

Wile E. CoyoteIn the United States today, the people act more like sheep and the government is increasingly acting like wolves. So, I thought it might be appropriate to remember some quotes from our Founding Fathers and other wise men.

“If once the people become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, Judges and Governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions.” ~Thomas Jefferson

“A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves.” ~Edward R. Murrow

“Who makes himself a sheep will be eaten by the wolves” ~Proverb

But we don’t all have to act like sheep if we remember the rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution.

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!” ~Benjamin Franklin

“In politics you must always keep running with the pack. The moment that you falter and they sense that you are injured, the rest will turn on you like wolves.” ~R. A. Butler

“And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?” ~Thomas Jefferson

I’ll leave you today with one last quote from the Good Book.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” ~Matthew 7:15
