Christians Support Obama?

Politics Religion

I’ve been thinking about this issue for some time. I have church-going friends who voted for Obama. I’ve also tried to convince my Christian brothers that Obama is evil. I’ve also tried to explain to them why I want Obama to fail. Some of them just don’t get it!

I was raised in a Christian household. I went to church every Sunday. I committed my life to Christ at a summer camp when I was twelve. I preached a sermon at my church when I was eighteen. I say these things only to establish my background.

I am completely disgusted by the way “Christians” speak about Obama. I was particularly upset when my mother forwarded me a chain e-mail in the months preceding the election that claimed Obama is the anti-christ, citing acrimonious rumors as supporting “facts.” And I was completely APPALLED when I realized how many “Christians” believed the e-mail and forwarded it to their friends.

You call Obama “evil.” You want him to fail (I assume you are referring to his presidency, not specific policies, and I certainly hope you don’t mean him as a person). I don’t understand why a Christian would disagree with Obama when he wrote: “Faith-based and other neighborhood organizations are vital to our Nation’s ability to address the needs of low-income and other underserved persons and communities.” in Executive Order 13498 signed on February 5th, 2009.

Of course, I’m sure you could counter with several other policies that he has implemented that go against “Christian” values and ideas. I’m not claiming that the aforementioned E.O. somehow proves he is a “Christian” — it does not. What I am suggesting is that you can’t hope a man fails just because you disagree with some of his views. Not only that, but who are we to judge whether a man is Christian or not? Only Obama knows if he is a true believer. If he says he is, are we not supposed to take him at his word? Or should we derive some deceitful intentions from him instead, and circulate rumors about his character?

It tears me up to read attacks like this. When people ask me if I’m a “Christian” I feel the need to clarify my positions before accepting the label. It’s a tragedy that Christ’s church would even lower itself to this level.

I’m assuming you didn’t bother to read the story I linked to, your rant seems like a knee-jerk reaction to anything “Christian.”

      I don’t think Obama is the anti-Christ.

Of course I want Obama’s policies to fail, he’s ruining the country. He claims every bill he’s signed is a “jobs bill,” but unemployment is still climbing.

I was against faith-based initiatives when Bush created the office of faith-based initiatives. Christians should always avoid entanglements with the government.

      Well said.

Greetings Justin: How can you say your a Christian and act all “righteous” condemning and ridiculing people? The matter at isn’t how YOU feel, the matter at hand is WHAT DOES GODS WORD SAY? God is DISGUSTED by a nation such as ours that winks at sin, mocks God and Scoffs Gods people. So be ashamed of what “you” consider wrong behavior. But Gods word doesn’t justify YOU. Gods word honors those who repent from evil and STAND against it in Jesus name Ephesians 6. Obama IS NOT an honest man/He is NOT the cure for this nation/he IS a false hope giver unlike any man in the history of this nation. He SCOFFS Christ/mocks Gods truths-so indeed per scripture “real” Christians are to WARN others not to be duped by his smooth tongue!

    • truthislove45

Greetings: Here are some scriptures that shall shed light on Gods purpose for dealing with wickedness.
      Proverbs 13:5
      Psalm 119:163
      Proverbs 8:13
God raised up John the Baptist too STAND and preach out against the wicked leaders of his time. That’s what “rational” don’t care to understand that God doesn’t tolerate evil at any level. AN OPEN REBUKE is better then hidden love. America has become a sooth saying nation “o tickle my ears please” tell me what my flesh wants to hear. Calling evil good and good evil. Out of the abundance of Obamas heart he reveals his rejection of Jesus Christ-the blind follow the blind.

    • truthislove

Greetings: So let me get this straight you will mock me for pointing you to scripture but you’ll praise Obama for leading you from it. There’s the true Christ (Gods chosen will follow) and there’s the antichrist who carnal minded people shall bow too. According to Gods word Obama is a carnal man/devoid of the Spirit of the Lord. That’s why he has no problem twisting scripture/thats why kids are being taught songs to worship him/thats why wicked rulers and evil people praise Obama. He encompasses the evil of our times. I do HOPE you seek Jesus with ALL your heart for TRUE CHANGE to take place in your life. Call me anything you would like Justin-by Gods grace you’ll see Obama is playing you and many for fools. That’s why Gods word says those who had no love for truth would believe the lie. Are Christians to love-amen! Jesus in his love exposed the evil of his time and the evil of man that’s why he said the world hates me. It also is written “an OPEN rebuke is better then hidden love” A “real” Christian will openinly rebuke the evil that others will hear and NOT follow false teachers/prophets/guides. Obama is a wicked/godless man. Follow him too your own damnation. My prayer is you get sincere about Jesus Christ to see why Obama is a child of Satan. Gods word says the Devil is the prince and power of the air (air waves) which is why most channels have Obama on tv so much. More then any President in history. Meglo Maniacs are media whores, why because they bow too the god of this world (satan) who is the prince and power of the air. May the Lord grant you eyes too see!

    you are obsessed w obama.

    • http://www.trommetter.com/log/ Jason

I’m not obsessed with Obama, I am saddened by what he is doing to our country. I hope we look back on the Obama years the same way we look back on the Carter years. I hope our next President will be more like Reagan.

I did read the link. I left a comment there, as well, although it wasn’t nearly as long-winded as this one was.

It may have been a “knee-jerk” reaction — and for that I apologize. I kept quiet throughout the election, hoping that after November 4th. Christians would stop being so hateful. The article you linked, however, touched a wound that hasn’t healed yet.

I know you didn’t call Obama the anti-christ, the e-mail my mother forwarded me several months ago did. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

I don’t think Christians should support all his policies. They shouldn’t hate the man because of his policies. In fact, they shouldn’t hate, period.

Does anyone notice the difference of tone between Jason and Justin? Justin sounds a whole lot more like I would expect Christ to be. Jason, you are the only one knee-jerking. Anyone reading this who is not a Christian must be so glad they are not, unless the consider Justin and his ability to listen and truly consider with compassion. I didn’t read your article, just the comments. It must be hard to feel like our country is being led by an evil person- tht would not be a fun way to live. But, he’s just a man, trying to do a tough job. All of this is classic human nature, but don’t attach Jesus’ sacred name to it. He never resorted to condescending or bullying.

Jesus called out the religious leaders of the day when they were doing evil. When the Pharisees accused Jesus of being in league with the devil, this was his response:

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.” — Matthew 12:33-35

Christians must do the same thing when we see evil rulers in this world. We cannot support those who would destroy our Great Country and our Constitution.

I hear what you’re saying Jason but, I think this is an occasion for us to take a really good look at ourselves as a body of believers. Although I’m sure there was plenty to criticize concerning the government at that time, Jesus chose to direct His comments to the religious leaders, as you mentioned in your post. I think it is a lot easier to become a pharisee than one might think.

I am a Christian. I graduated from a Christian college with a degree in Ministry and Education. I am also ashamed of the behavior of so many Christians who apear in the news these days. I believe President Obama is trying hard to make this country a better place for all its citizens…not just the rich and powerful. I guess I would rather drink the “Coolaid” because I have tasted the “Tea” and have found it to be weak…and yet somehow very bitter.

In Jesus day, Jews lived in a theocracy. The religious leaders were the government. When Jesus criticized the religious leaders, he was criticizing the government.

I know Romans were in charge, but the Jews considered them illegitimate. They were looking for a Messiah who would throw off the foreign yoke.

I know people don’t want to talk about it, but our Founding Fathers were Christians or Theists. They couldn’t imagine a country with leaders who didn’t fear God.

There are many Christians out here who are trying to understand. We all have had different journeys in our faith. Why do you think Jesus had to come when He did? Do you think it was to chastise those who were trying to love their enemies and understand each other? The words you provided directed at the Pharisees help us see the climate of the time. He saved His harsh words for people of religion. That speaks volumes, I think. I can’t believe a person would question anyone else’s relationship with Christ. Just doesn’t seem right….
And who are you to appoint who is an evil or good leader? Maybe some of us see it differently. There are evil rulers who torture, kill, etc. but all Obama has done is say things you don’t agree with.

  • Jj

Don’t know how to remove my comment or I would. I just read a post from truth is love. It’s no mystery how you are going to react so please just disregard and don’t let your blood pressure go up.

I am writing this to ALL Christians. I have read alot of writings pertaining to President Obama and I have to admit that some of these writings alarm me to the point of causing me to PRAY harder for the LORD to return. There are some who believe that Obama is the mesiah and that he will make every thing better in their individual lives. But, I say unto you , beware of the wolves that come to you in sheeps clothing for when you least expect it you will be devoured. Some of you say that obama is a good man. Some of you are treating him like a god. Some of you are wanting someone to make everything better. I tell you the truth, be not decieved!! How can you as a follower of Jesus Christ who hates SIN say that you support obama? If obama continues with all of his “CHANGE, YES WE CAN ” attitude and the American People do not come to their senses and stop him in his tracks then I feel we will travel to a way of life that most of us will not like. Yes there are many who have been decieved and they continue to drink the flavored kool-aid and buy into everything that comes out of obamas mouth and walking on the primrose lane while wearing rose colored glasses and be stoned out of your right mind or at least that is how they appear to me. I cast no stones at those who support obama and I as a follower of Jesus Christ cannot and will not join with them in their sea of deception but I will PRAY for all who are confused and sopporting a President that is for EVERYTHING that GOD is against. I know that some say we shouldnt judge and I DO NOT JUDGE! The word of GOD says that you will know a tree by the fruit that it bears. TRUE followers of JESUS CHRIST should be fruit inspectors. We should only support and vote for people who line up with the WORD OF GOD. As christians , our loyalty should not be to the Republican or Democratic Parties but rather to Our Heavenly Father. For those who dis- agree with this writing I forgive you now for the bad thoughts that you have had for me while reading this. In closing let me remind you that Jesus LOVES you and I!!!!! I will pray for you right now that the HOLY SPIRIT will come to you and lead you in the way that GOD would have you to go. Lord God, please bless the reader of these words, let your peace come into their presence right now and Lord, bless their households as well as their families in the wonderful name of Jesus I pray that you will guide this nation Lord and I pray that your People would humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways and follow you Lord. In JESUS NAME I ASK THESE THINGS……………..AMEN
