Competent Commander-in-Chief?

I have genuine concerns that Barack Obama is not competent to be Commander-in-Chief. This story in the Washington Times highlights some of my concerns.

Obama OK’d 2 SEAL teams for pirates
President Obama dispatched two separate teams of Navy commandos to carry out last week’s rescue of a merchant ship captain held hostage by Somali pirates but left the operational details and rules of engagement to military commanders, National Security Adviser James. L. Jones said Tuesday.

There are two possible reasons why Obama left the decision up to the military commanders on the sea.

  1. Obama didn’t really care enough about what was happening to make sure the Captain was saved from the pirates. After all, he has other issues back home that are more important.
  2. Obama knows nothing about the military and wasn’t comfortable issuing commands to the sailors who had to get the job done.

Either reason makes me concerned that Barack is not up to the job.

I have only one concern with someone who has to have their hands on everything, and that is that they don’t always understand everything they have their hand on.

In my rather limited experience with working full-time i’ve noticed that a lot of managers who need to make every decision themself tend to affect the outcome of things that they do not fully understand. I would rather have someone in power who knows their limitations and is an effective deligator than someone who inserts themself in every situation. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve had a manager make decisions without consulting any of their own employees first and therefore puts a project way behind schedule or puts it in jeapardy of failure.

I think this is an important feature of our current president. Yes, he doesn’t have experience in this situation, he did not pretend to know what would be best for everyone involved, he left the real decision making up to the people who have the background and knowledge in those situations to make the best decision for the best outcome.

A good leader does know how to delegate and I guess Obama deserves some credit for that. Ultimately, “The buck stops here.” The CiC has to make the final decision about issues that are critical to our national security.

Barack, like Bill Clinton before him, never held any military rank. I believe Obama shows disdain in his attitude toward those who keep our country safe. He is about to embark on a witch hunt that could tarnish the reputations of people who have served our country for decades. It could set back our intelligence services if people are afraid to do what needs to be done to get vital information.

No matter what Obama and his DHS Secretary say, we are still fighting a war against jihadists.

I completely agree with you on his witch hunt. He should leave that entirely alone and stay out of it. He may come to realize too late that those actions and those people have kept this country safe by any means, including some that may not sit well with the general public.
