Parking Lot Gun Laws and the Right to Transport Firearms
Should people who lawfully possess firearms be able to leave them locked in their motor vehicles, on business property? Common sense would say, “yes.”
Bush-Quail ‘06
The wascally Washington press corps is at it again, upset that a local reporter got the scoop on Dick Cheney’s hunting accident and asking what the president knew and when did he know it? The press was already gunning for the vice president over whether he was behind the leak that Scooter Libby got indicted for allegedly fibbing about, and other issues. Now their version of a wanted poster has “armed and dangerous” added to it after Cheney accidentally shot a hunting companion, attorney Harry Whittington.
Cheney Doesn’t Owe the Media an Apology
The hissy fit thrown by the national media appears to be working. Just like spoiled children, the media’s temper tantrum over the lack of information flowing directly to them regarding Vice President Cheney’s hunting accident has now started to yield results. Democrats, media members, and even some Republicans are beginning to criticize the vice president. Get real! Iran is enriching uranium, and the only concern in Washington appears to be the hurt feelings of left-wing journalists.
Ewww! Don’t touch that mouse!
Computer mouses found in cyber cafes have been ranked as the second most bacteria-infested items in a list of commonly touched objects.

I found you through a trackback you left on my blog about the Cheney shooting incident.
I think Cheney handled the press portion of this situation badly, and it seems every former Republican (and current) press secretaries feel the same. Since I am a PR professional, my blog was simply commenting on the PR aspects of this. If Cheney had gotten out there with his version faster, we wouldn’t still be talking about it today, believe me, this is Crisis Communication 101, and sometimes the VP makes mistakes, don’t we all?

I don’t believe what you’re saying. The MSM hates Bush, Cheney and the entire administration. How long did it take for the news about Vince Foster to come out? They didn’t crucify the Clintons for that coverup, did they?

I didnt expect for you to “believe” anything, what do you think I am asking you to believe anyway? I am not even saying that the press corp isn’t being unecessarily hard on Cheney, they are. As I remember it, Vince Foster shot himself and that fact was reported pretty quickly. However, the politics and the conspiracy theories came out later.
In this case, we are talking about holding back an initial report about a shooting by the VP here. Give me a break! The political reporting might all be crap, but I was talking about simple PR 101 stuff. Even McClellan and Fitzwater, both Repulicans last time I checked, said the media component in this was handled poorly:

Actually, the fact that communication was handled poorly will probably mean that the conspiracy stupidity will get legs.

Exactly what did the veep hold back? He made sure his buddy got medical attention. Reported it to the police. Then he told a reporter who understands quail hunting what happened.
He didn’t tell the Whitehouse press corps because they don’t understand what happens out in the field when you’re hunting quail. I’m sure none of those Washington reporters owns a gun, most of them have probably never shot a gun. The Whitehouse press corps has just had their poor widdle feelings hurt. Too bad!

The next day at 11 a.m. in a 24-hour media cycle. It just isn’t the way the thing works, no matter how much you might like the guy. He made a bad decision in this case. That’s all I am saying, nothing else.
