Good News for Pro-Life Activists

Life

The Good News: SCOTUS backs Pro-Life activists.

The Bad News: AP displays its bias in the way it describes Pro-Lifers.

Supreme Court Backs Abortion Protesters

The Supreme Court dealt a setback Tuesday to abortion clinics in a two-decade-old legal fight over abortion protests, ruling that federal extortion and racketeering laws cannot be used to ban demonstrations.

Is this really just a [quote]setback[unquote] ? The Pro-Choice side seems to think SCOTUS is the final authority on everything so shouldn’t this settle the issue? The AP’s bias comes out in the second paragraph of the article:

Anti-abortion groups brought the appeal after the 7th Circuit had asked a trial judge to determine whether a nationwide injunction could be supported by charges that protesters had made threats of violence absent a connection with robbery or extortion

Instead of referring to the right-to-life side as Pro-Life, they call us [quote]Anti-abortion.[unquote]

Give the contract to Haliburton

United States

I haven’t said anything about the Dubai Ports World deal until now because I wasn’t sure where I stood on the issue. But because one of my loyal readers asked I give you this:

Democrats Use Ports Deal to Strike Back at Republicans

Democrats are using the Dubai Ports World deal to refute Republican accusations that Democrats are soft on national security, the Boston Globe reported on Tuesday. Democrats are now suggesting that the Bush administration is weak on national security for approving a deal that would allow a Dubai-owned company to manage some of the terminals at six major U.S. ports.

Personally, I think our ports should be run by an American company. Not for security reasons necessarily, but because I think the best way for the government to create jobs is to give these contracts to American companies. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the only company in the U.S. that could provide this service was Haliburton? The liberals are screaming about the ports deal now, the would squeal even louder if the contract was awarded to Haliburton instead.

The State ‘has got gall’

South Carolina

I praised Governor Sanford for vetoing the bill to build this memorial and several other bills. That led to the infamous Pork and Barrel stunt.

Sanford ‘has got gall’

Gov. Mark Sanford’s attendance at the recent dedication of a memorial to fallen law enforcement officers appears more than a bit nervy. Hundreds of family members showed up at the State House two weeks ago to honor loved ones who had died in the line of duty. The occasion was the dedication of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the Capitol grounds — which Sanford tried to kill with a veto nearly three years ago. Because of that, event organizers were torn about whether to invite Sanford.

I think it’s The State’s reporters that have got gall. Sanford offered to open up his own wallet if the memorial was paid for entirely by private funds. He vetoed the $5,000 expenditure during a severe budget crisis. I happen to think all memorials like this should be paid for with private funds, so I think the Governor did the right thing then and now.

ACLU v. Harris

Education

This is exactly why I think the ACLU is so dangerous and wrong. Just the threat of an ACLU lawsuit funded with taxpayer money usually enough to make a school change its mind. What’s so wrong with teaching the Bible as history? A large portion of the world believes it shows the history of the Jewish nation.

High school bible classes attract ACLU attention

Gary Harris isn’t seeking converts. Still, the Bible is his business as he spends his days leading classes on its history at Laney and Hoggard high schools. The more students learn, the more complete an experience the Bible becomes, Harris said.

The [quote]civil rights[unquote] group says only that it is gathering information. But its interest alone may bring significant changes as educators examine what the classes teach and, perhaps more importantly, who teaches them. The classes will continue this semester, but beyond that will be a school board decision, said Rick Holliday, the district’s executive director of instructional services.

I hope this teacher and the school district stand up against the ACLU’s bullying.

Gentoo Penguins Invade South Carolina

Riverbanks Zoo receives new penguin species

The new Gentoo penguins at Riverbanks Zoo dive to the bottom of the exhibit’s pool, build up speed as they rise to the surface and soar out of the water to land feet first on a ledge more than 2 feet above the surface.

I can’t wait until we can go back to the Riverbanks Zoo again. BTW, they’re having a contest to name the penguins so you might want to visit their web site and enter.
