Nominate a Known Conservative

Justice

Dear Mr. President,

I’m writing to remind you to keep your campaign promise, and nominate a judge to the Supreme Court with the same judicial philosophy as Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia.

With the retirement of Sandra Day O’Connor, we finally have the chance to see a true conservative judge — one who will interpret the Constitution, instead of legislating from the bench — on the Supreme Court.

Please, don’t listen to the counsel of political compromisers — please keep your promise and nominate a known, qualified judge like Thomas and Scalia.

Don’t be afraid of a fight with the Senate. It has to happen sooner or later, it might as well be now. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jason A. Trommetter

News

Or is it? Some conservatives have been expecting this news for at least the past week.

Harriet Miers withdraws

Embattled Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, criticized far more harshly from the conservative right than from Democrats as unqualified for the nation’s highest court, withdrew her nomination, President Bush announced on Thursday.

I was against her nomination, almost from the beginning, so I’m glad to hear this news.

A Novel Event

I can’t remember how long it’s been since Auburn and I have been out for dinner and dancing. I won tickets to a $50 a plate benefit dinner for the Greenville Literacy Association, so we jumped at the chance to get out for the night. (Ahold Information Services is a sponsor, so they had 6 tickets to give away.) The invitation said “black tie optional” so we dressed up. I wouldn’t have rented a tux for this, but since I own one I wore it. We had a great time and we actually did get to dance a little. On our way out, a lady from Bi-Lo complimented us on how well we dance.

Blogging Software

Just downloaded a new browser product called Flock. It’s based on the Mozilla Firefox engine, but it has some extra features. I’m creating this blog post in Flock right now. It found my WordPress blog very easily. No problems setting it up at all.

I’ve heard that Flock will crash quite frequently because it’s still in beta. I’m going to use it for a few days and see what happens.
