"Once you are made king you will be free to rule with an iron fist. What will be the first 3 laws issued by you to begin your reign?"

Wow! What a strange question to ask a Libertarian.  I’ll have to answer this question with a libertarian bent.

The first thing I would do is rename the country.  It would no longer be the United States of America.  It would become "The United States of Trommetter."  And yes, that means everyone will finally have to learn how to spell my last name.  (I arrived at work today to find out they had mispelled my name in the corporate directory.  They left out one "m.")

The second thing I would do is repeal the current income tax system and replace it with a flat tax. The government under my reign will be forced to get a lot smaller.  I’ll cut out a lot of government programs (see my third law, below.) When we cut the government down to size, we should be able to run it on a flat tax of just 9% of everyone’s income.  After all, if God can run His Kingdom on a 10% tithe, I should be able to run my kingdom on less money.

The third law I would pass would abolish a lot of unneeded government agencies.  I’ll start with the Department of Education.  Hey, it’s not my responsibility to make sure your kids are educated, it’s your responsibility parents! Next to go, the Social Security Administration.  Start putting money in your own retirement account, don’t depend on the government coffers being full when you want to retire. After that, Housing and Urban development.  What exactly do they do anyway?  When I get finished, we’ll just have a Foreign Minister, a Finance Minister and a Minister of Defense left in my cabinet.

That’s how I’d start my reign as King of the United States of Trommetter.

Ouch! Talk about bad theology, what Bible are you reading and with whom?

First, get in a group Bible study with people of diverse opinion. You may alter their thinking as they may alter yours, and all would benefit.

Second, read Jim Wallis’ book “God’s Politics”. Sure, he’s a liberal, but also a theological scholar that lives the life most of us see called for in the Bible and it might cause you to consider that some tax collection and government spending remain necessary.

I’m with you on the flat tax, totally, but wonder if God calls for 10 percent, what makes you think we can do it on less?

    Peace be with you,
