Pork and Barrel

Pork Governor Brings Pigs To Statehouse; Lawmakers Unamused

Gov. Mark Sanford carried two piglets under his arms to the House chamber today to protest fast action by lawmakers to override his budget vetoes.

The pigs names? Why “Pork” and “Barrel” of course!

Now this is a guy who sounds like an old-style Republican for smaller government. His actions are enough to make a Libertarian proud!

“It’s illegal in South Carolina to run a deficit and if we’ve got cold, hard cash available to take care of it, I think we have a constitutional requirement to pay it off rather than pay for pork projects around the state,” Sanford said.

Maybe lawmakers should spend more time cuting the budget and less time being outraged!

Inside the House chamber, representatives were outraged.

  • Lets see, Sanford has hacked Republicans, Harrell and Kuhn. Maybe he should switch parties to the Libertarian party. After all, the Libertarians may like him as the Republicans are plotting his demise.

  • There is something afoot that is not known to the voting populous. The legislature hates Sanford, I know part of it has to do with the PR war he has waged against them and another part is the enormous egos these elected folks choose to carry. Their spending ( the legislature) is nothing short of outrageous. Look back ten years ago at the size of the State budget in comparison to today. The legislature likes to spend our money short and simple. In the gubernatorial primary I did not vote for Sanford, much preferred another candidate. To this day I still am not terribly found of Sanford but I have less affection for the legislature at this particular moment. Maybe he is winning the PR war?
