Judge Denies Gov. Bush’s Effort to Help Terri Schiavo

[Topic: Religion] Clearwater, FL (LifeNews.com) — Circuit Court Judge George Greer denied an effort by Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to appoint a guardian to independently investigate Terri Schiavo’s situation and provide the court with an unbiased view.

Don’t you thing it might be better for Terri Schiavo to go home to be with God? Why should she be trapped in a useless body here on earth when her soul could be set free. I for one do not ever want to be kept alive by machines or feeding tubes.

I really think that people need to step back and see this not as a political issue, but as a families fight to get their daughter help and save her from the greed of one man.

Terri Schiavo collapsed under suspicious circumstances. Medical evidence showing that she had multiple bone fractures and was, in the words of one neurologist, “worked over pretty good” was kept from Terri’s family and NOT released to the courts until recently. Michael (the husband) and his attorney kept this information under wraps until after the statute of limitation for assault had expiried and charges could no longer be filed.

Michael filed and won a malpractice suit on behalf of Terri. He, as her guardian, was awarded approx. $1 million. He and multiple doctors testified during that suit that with therapy, Terri very likely could be rehabilitated.

Shortly (within a couple of months) of receiving the money from the suit, Michael moved Terri into a hospice center, instructed the center NOT to medicate her for infections & has REFUSED to allow her to receive rehabilitative therapy.

That is when the parents stepped in and requested that he have their marriage dissolved and allow them to care for their daughter. He responded by filing a request to remove Terri’s feeding tube. Terri is NOT in a coma. She is NOT hooked up to machines that are keeping her alive. She has an IV that supplies her with nurishment since she is physically unable to swallow.

Terri responds to her parents, she tries to speak, she laughs, she cries, she pushes away the hand of doctors tickling her face with a cotton swab. She follows objects, she follows instructions to open her eyes, etc. This is NOT a woman that is in a Persistant Vegetative State as defined by Florida State Law.

Michael has blocked Terri’s parents effort to have her begin immediate therapy to reteach her how to swallow. Why would you want to starve a woman to death, when multiple doctors have said that with therapy she could get better?

If she dies, HE as her husband (he refuses to dissovle the marriage even though he is living with a woman, has had a child with her and plans to marry her when Terri is “gone”) HE inherets the malpractice money that was awarded to pay for her rehab and medical care. HE has been using some of that money to pay his attorney fees to KILL her.

This case is NOT about Terri’s right to die with dignity. It is about a man, who would rather have his wife starve to death so that he can receive 100′s of thousands of dollars.

We execute serial killers with more mercy than the state of Florida is going show Terri when they execute her by starvation and dehydration.

I think that if you are going to support a “pro life” website that you should be consistent in your views. What is the difference between someone finding out that their baby is going to have down syndrome and someone having a grown child with a disability? Are aborted babies not, then “sent home to the Lord?” How do YOU know what quality of life Terri Schiavo has? How would YOU like to be in that same situation and BE cognitive and not be able to show it? That would be like hell in itself, not to mention the fact that here are all these people that don’t even know you saying to go ahead and let you die. That IS barbaric and cruel. It’s disgusting what the human race has turned into and I think that if there IS a God that he is sorely disappointed in people like you who are so readily willing to put themselves in someone else’s shoes when there’s no way to possibly do that and to make judgement calls for people they don’t even know. I am a strong believer that most people don’t have the IQ of a pea pod and that those who walk around with the bible on their backs are at the top of that list because they don’t know how to think for themselves. It’s easier to just take whatever version is most convenient for you to live by and say “yes this is for me” than to actually deal with the real issues of life HERE on Earth. Rest assured that there are many more sadists just like you out there, so should you end up as a “vegetable”, I’m sure one of them will see to it that you are tortured to death too, and all in the name of “send them home to the Lord”.

Concerning Terri Schiavo, I’ve read reports from her family that she is not brain dead, that she smiles, knows who is in the room, and is merely trapped in a semi-non functional body. Quoting a previous posting, “Don’t you thing it might be better for Terri Schiavo to go home to be with God? Why should she be trapped in a useless body here on earth when her soul could be set free. I for one do not ever want to be kept alive by machines or feeding tubes.” Who is this person to decide Terri’s outcome. This reminds me of a Phil Keaggy tune where the subject is abortion. But the words sort of apply here as well. “Who will Speak-up for the Little Ones; helpless and half-abandoned; they have a right to choose Life, they don’t want to lose; I must Speak-up; How about you?”

The Web site of Brigham and Women’s Hospital offers this definition of a “persistent vegetative state:”

Persistent vegetative state describes the chronic condition that almost invariably emerges after coma. It comprises a return of wakefulness (e.g. eye opening), sleep-wake cycles, and reflex movements (e.g. sucking, startle responses, grabbing), accompanied by a total lack of cognitive or mental activity of any type. The vegetative state is produced by intact function of the brain stem and “deeper” (i.e. subcortical) regions of the brain, without activity of the cerebral cortex itself. Persistent vegetative state refers to this condition in its permanent form and designates patients who survive for prolonged periods (sometimes years) following a severe brain injury without ever recovering any outward manifestations of higher mental activity. While these patients look awake and often alert they have no discernible meaningful interaction with their environment. Recovery of conscious awareness after one year in a vegetative state is exceedingly rare.

Based on this definition, Terri is in a persistent vegetative state. I wouldn’t want my body to be kept alive just so my family could think I was still there when I really wasn’t.
