War Coverage Highlighting Casualties over Context
CNSNews.com: “Five days into the war with Iraq, with the unprecedented access of embedded journalists on the frontlines, some critics say there’s too much media coverage of body counts and too little context. National Review contributing editor Jim Robbins said for the first few days, the media was “doing a very good job of keeping its perspective on the war and how wars are covered.” However, once casualty reports began coming in, a bias began to emerge, he said. Robbins said this isn’t specifically a “right/left” bias but one skewed toward emotion-driven “superficial things” and an attempt at “trying to create issues.””
I don’t know what I can add to that assessment. I’ve noticed the news anchors are very sad when they should be rejoicing because we’re winning. We’re 50 miles outside Baghdad getting ready to go in and wipe ‘em out.
